May 14, 2017 was the dedication Sunday for our “Dreams to Reality” capital campaign. Pledges that day totaled $250,000, and by the close of the campaign we reach our funding goal of $500,000 for expenses related to our building project and temporary relocation. We are grateful for everyone who is part of making God’s vision for our property become a reality.
During Summer 2021 Central UMC temporarily relocated from our church property in Ballston to office and worship space located at 4701 Arlington BLVD in the Arlington Forest neighborhood. During three years of construction our church property was transformed into an 8 story building that will include space for worship, pre-school, and 144 units of affordable housing.

Rev. Sarah Harrison-McQueen
Senior Pastor
A graduate of Boston University School of Theology, Rev. Sarah Harrison-McQueen is an ordained Elder and has served as a minister in the Virginia Conference since 2007.

Jacob Williams (He/Him) - Worship Coordinator & Accompanist
I’ve been playing the piano in church since I was eight years old. My journey began when I had to step in and play for the choir after our regular pianist fell ill. It was the start of a life-long love of playing. I’ve had the chance to play various styles ranging from traditional hymns to praise and worship songs to jazz-infused Christmas music. I can’t wait to continue music ministry and be part of worship service!
I’ve been working as a programmer and analyst at the Federal Reserve Board for about six years, following my graduation from the University of Kentucky, where I studied math and economics as well as jazz piano. Before that, I lived in a small town in Kentucky.
In my free time, I love biking, tinkering with gadgets like Raspberry Pi mini-computers, and keeping up with local news in the newspaper.

Appolinaire Abo- Bookeeper
Appolinaire Abo is the Bookkeeper at Central United Methodist Church (CUMC). As the Bookkeeper, Appolinaire enters the annual budget into Church Windows, calculates payroll, files monthly income tax, processes accounts payable, and reconciles bank accounts. Appolinaire is a Business Operations Specialist at the U.S. National Science Foundation. In this role, Appolinaire works in procurement, financial administration, budget, program facilitation and administration. Appolinaire is a FY24 Chief Executive Officers Fellow in the acquisition function. Appolinaire holds a master’s degree (M.A.) from the University of Abomey-Calavi, Benin – West Africa, and two certificates and an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, all three in Accounting from the Northern Virginia Community College.
Kathy Kane - Nursery Caregiver
Ms. Kathy has been a Preschool Teacher for over 30 years. She previously worked at Kinhaven for 10 years, and now works part time at Arlington Unitarian Cooperative Preschool. She loves spending time with children so it has been such a joy working as a teacher. Her love for Jesus inspires her to live her best life. She volunteers as a hospice helper, helps with the CUMC food ministry to make lunch for the homeless services center, and often bakes goodies for charity fundraising. She loves spending time with family and friends, travelling, and walking around different gardens to admire God’s beauty.
